Obituary of Paula Weinkauf

Please share a memory of Paula to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Paula was born on June 29, 1913 on the family homestead near Grosswerder. She was born to John and Marie Kohlman and was the last of her 8 siblings to reach her final resting place. Paula passed away peacefully on July 8, 2013 with family by her side at St. Joseph's Health Centre at 100 years of age. Paula spent her early life and teen years on the family farm; it was there she learned the value of hard work, importance of family, and most of all faith in God. She married John H. Weinkauf on June 5, 1933 and for the next 4 years lived with his family on the farm. In 1937, they moved onto their own farm, it is here where they raised their 3 children until retiring to Primate in 1963. John passed away in 1982. The Primate church closed in 1983 which lead to her decision to move to Macklin. In Paula's words "Our church was closed which felt like another funeral, I felt all alone in the world". She lived in her own home until she was 86 years old, then she moved to the Villa Marie and then to St. Joseph's in November of last year. Paula worked hard her whole life taking in countless borders, catering weddings, and laundering the church linens. She always had a huge garden which kept her busy most days, but will be forever remembered for her countless hours in front of the sewing machine. She sewed, quilted, crocheted, knitted, and mended for more than 80 years. Paula has inspired all who knew her with her deep faith and trust in God. She wrote "There are 3 things you can't buy - heaven, love, and respect; those things you have to earn. If trouble or sickness arises, pray to God for strength. He won't let you down. You would be surprised how much you can get for an act of love or a piece of pie or a dish of noodle soup. Some people never forget a kind thing you did for them." She will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by her children, Josephine (†Peter) Scherger, †Albert (Nellie), and Angie (Gabe) Fleck; 19 grandchildren & their spouses; 55 great-grandchildren & their spouses; and 28 great-great-grandchildren; brother in law, Fred (Flora) Doetzel; sister in law, Rosie Weinkauf. She was predeceased by her husband, John; son, Albert; son-in-law, Peter; grandchildren, Tanya Weinkauf, Brad Fleck; great-grandchildren, Tina Baier, Peter George Baier; and great-great-grandchild, Aveen Savage; four sisters; and three brothers.
