Albin Thunberg

Obituary of Albin Wilbert Thunberg

Please share a memory of Albin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Albin Thunberg was born in Provost, Alberta on July 4,1933 to parents Albin Thunberg Sr. and Grace Thunberg. He was the oldest of three children followed by his sister, Alice Thunberg (Carter) and brother, Lloyd Thunberg. Albin was raised on a farm northeast of Hayter, Alberta. In his younger years he made a living hauling coal, supplying most of the Provost area with heating fuel, as well as custom grain hauling under his company name A Thunberg Trucking.

Albin met his wife Rose Ermantrout from Macklin, Saskatchewan at a restaurant where she was working at the time. Albin and Rose married on February 27,1959. Together they had two children, a son Bruce Thunberg in September of 1959 and a daughter, Roxanne Sherman (Thunberg) in February 1961.

Albin and Rose purchased a ½ section of farmland from Alf Borgstrom and set up farming. They eventually purchased additional farmland over the years to add to the existing farm. Albin’s greatest love was farming the land. Another love of his was raising cattle. He and his brother co owned and ran a herd of range cattle. Albin also loved his Holsteins, to which with help of Rose and kids, raised a small herd starting with pail feeding newborns every spring. He stayed in the cattle business till approximately early 1990's. Over the years, several other breeds of animals graced the farm such as pigs, turkeys, ducks, and chickens.  Thanks to his brother, who convinced his daughter to bring home a Collie puppy from an auction mart, created Albin's strong love of Collies which lasted through the years.

Albin was a very proud yet humble man and stayed actively farming until approximately 2009, when he handed over the reins to his only son. Albin was also very happy to see his only grandson take an active interest in farming. Grandson, Jayden Thunberg, was born to Bruce and Shirley Thunberg on October 15, 1997.

Albin's wife Rose passed away on October 17, 1997, and Albin remained on the farm till his passing on December 18, 2023.

Albin leaves behind to mourn his passing son, Bruce (Shirley) Thunberg and their son, Jayden Thunberg; daughter, Roxanne Sherman (Thunberg); sister, Alice Carter, brothers in law, Myrell (Alvina) Keller, Larry (Marlene) St. Amand, and Francis (Linda) Ermantrout; numerous nephews and nieces, as well as good neighbors and friends.
